We met while Melanie was interviewing for a police officer position. She was assigned to do a ride-along with Alex. We spent 8 hours together that first night and instantly knew there was a connection but didn’t act on any feelings until it was certain that Melanie did not get the position a couple of months later. In our opinion we ended up with the better deal, a soul mate!How did the proposal take place?
The proposal took place in the bride's hometown of Woodford County. We were “supposed” to be going to lunch in celebration of Melanie’s older sister graduating from her masters program. We were all taking pictures outside of the restaurant when Melanie decided to sit on a stone wall for a picture with Alex. When she turned to him because she could feel he wasn’t beside her anymore, he was down on one knee asking her to marry him, in front of her family!In what ways have you prepared to make your wedding day unique and special to the two of you?
I have always dreamed of a winter wedding, one with snow and a long sleeve jacket over my wedding dress. I tried to stay away from a Christmas theme and make it more of a winter theme. We picked plum, silver and black as our colors. We had handmade ornaments that read, faith, hope or love. Each were carefully hung on a live dogwood tree at our reception for the guests to take as a party favor. We also made our seating chart out of recycled wood and strung lace across to hang the cards on. We were very key on making things ourselves and knowing that everything was going to be unique to us. Knowing all the time we put into making sure there was no detail overlooked, and then seeing the final product made everything worth it. You can’t plan for snow, although we prayed for it! We were so blessed that we had about 4 inches of snow the morning of our wedding which made beautiful photos and made all the dreaming a reality.What has been the most challenging experience throughout this process and do you have any advice for future brides?
The most challenging experience through this whole process was everyone else’s opinions. It hard to really look into the future at the bigger picture and stay set on what you want everything to look like, when you have all of you family giving their opinions as well. (Especially when you have a family full of women lol). Advice for future brides would be sit down, think about what you really want. Do not deviate from that no matter how opinionated you friends and family can be, because it’s YOUR day, YOUR wedding, YOUR pictures, YOUR memories. And no matter what, at the end of the day you’re going to be married!!!How did you go about selecting your vendors?
Selecting vendors is very time consuming. We did a lot of internet searching. The church was stumbled upon by the mother of the bride. It just felt right. Alex and I went to services a couple times and fell in love with how beautiful it was. The pastor is wonderful and we are now members at Latonia Baptist Church. McHale’s pricing for the reception was wonderful. They were so accommodating and helpful. We were also intrigued by the Chef winning Best Chef in Northern Kentucky. Because face it, if the food is bad people aren’t happy. We had so many compliments on how great the staff was and how wonderful the food tasted. Our photographer is a family friend; she takes beautiful pictures. We knew we were in good hands when we hired her. She is very attentive to detail. Her work is definitely art. Our band is the band that my husband plays in, Decket. They are very versatile in their music and can also dj songs that they don’t sing. They kept the energy up at the reception and even kept the crowd involved by having them play the tambourine and singing. It was such a great time and they were awesome. Jacksons Florist and Marilyn’s Cakes are both local vendors, HIGHLY recommended by the community. They both had the best product for the best price!
